Myth nr 2 is so wrong it’s not funny. Ferrets DO NOT NEED to get descented, this is a practice used in America. Any animal kept in a cage and not allowed to air themselves buy running around will smell like an animal. A human would smell if you don’t air the house by opening the windows. FERRETS SHOULD NOT BE KEPT IN A CAGE CONTINUOUSLY as they are active and playful beings. But even if they release the smell a bit, its not a big deal, just open the window. If I farthed it would be much worse!
I enjoyed the video and found it really interesting. Our vet did however say that in the UK it is not normal to de-scent ferrets. It’s no problem though as I really like the smell of ferretts and horses and most other animals. Less pungent than humans!
@ drowninginferno: ok 1 fukin is spelled fuckin 2 did you take care of her?!?!
I agree with the hypo-allergenic comment in the video…I’m terribly allergic to cats and dogs but I’ve never had any problems with my ferrets. One additional thing to add to the video is that I’ve heard that it’s unhealthy for the ferret to be in an environment any warmer than 80 degrees (because they don’t sweat)…I live in San Antonio and I keep my air conditioner on all of the time during the summer, so that could get expensive for some people…
Can they be de-sented while being de-sexed?
so what you saying is that ferrets like toddlers should be cadged when you not at home?… tea-hee tea-hee
no this is a very informitive video ::thumbs up::
Totally true ;D!!!!!
my cousins once had a ferret
it bit a little girl on the face
well, she was carrying it around by the neck and screaming into it’s ears, so its no wonder
Myth 2 is bull!
They do stink only in heat!
If you keep them on good quality diet and have them castrated there will be no stink! Every living creature has its own smell. We humans do too.
Some people can’t stand the smell of the ferret and that’s that.
As with every pet, responsible owners have to wash the bedding regularly and keep their pets on good food and so on.
Removing anal glands doesn’t do anything to the general ferret odor! It is pointless operation unless other health issues!
thansk this video is just wat i need i am going to gett three ferret after two months coz my dad said if i can look after teh rabit for two months i can get a ferret yeah well im ganna get three and this will convincehim they are good pett thhanks LOVE THE VID TO BITSS XXXX
my ferret escaped out a window about 2 weeks ago, no one in my family has seen him since. so are you saying he’s dead? the first day some lady saw him by a park near my house. then a worker told us that he saw my ferret on a house near mine the next morning. but it’s been 2 weeks. any help on finding him? recently before he left i just got a kitten to play with him. but he left
any advise?
Myth #8 i beliwe you, but u can train cats to.
@Mikeybetts I would have bit her too. O_o
@picatsoforfma Please dont even consider de-scenting it is totally unecessary it has nothing to do with a ferrets body odour
)
@bagpuss170363 Thanks. Would it really be any worse than de-sexing or just unnecessary?
@picatsoforfma A ferret uses the scent glands on in moments of extreme fear much like a skunk does but unlike the skunk the smell is not so bad and lasts maybe a minute or two but as pet ferrets do not usually get that scared de scenting is just plain unnecessary. Neutering/de-sexing in males will greatly reduce that ferrety odour – I have two neutered boys who live inside and you cannot smell them at all. The trick is to wash bedding weekly and keep the litterbox clean.
that hat XD
ive had a ferret for about 1 month, and hes amazing, i love him soo much, the only issue is he smells every now and then from his nasty poo lol, but i have febreeze and a air filter right above his pen so thats no issue, and i bathe his like 3 times a week, they love baths!! and they dont bite hard, mine “play” bites, it actually tickles, he only bit me hard ones and that was the 2nd day. but i love ferrets, they live LONG!!
oh and one more thing is i let my ferret roam my 2 story house, i close all the doors and cover up all the cracks he can get into. they get along with other animals, even with my german shepherd. he runs out like 8 hours a day, their so cool!!
@xXShadowRejectsXx so how do you control the “accidents” he may leave around?
@xXShadowRejectsXx im happy for you. i actually just got one 2 days ago. the idea was that i’d get a pet ferret for the dog im going to get. i figured when im not home, the dog will have a friend. but one thing i wanted to point out to you; i think that showering them 3 times a week is bad for them. try looking it up. keep me updated on what you learn. but from what i understood, once every two weeks is the soonest they should be washed.
@judyshows my advise? get a new ferret. im not really the sensative type so my opinion is that its no big deal. you just get a new ferret. but that opinion of mine changes when it comes to dogs. mostly because of how much more hard work we put into training dogs and how much more attached we tend to get to them. but than again, unlike many other people, i would never pay thousands of dollors to try to cure some issue with my dog. its just not worth it. after all, its just a dog.
@hotshotslovex why would you need 3 ferrets? isnt one enough? ok, i can understand why having 2. so that they can play together. but 3???
this vid was super helpful. AND convinced my parents 2 get a ferret so…METAL I..I, im getting a ferret!
@ 2:06 What ???
